Early in the morning, our guide will pick you up from your hotel. We will head to the eastern region of the Ecuadorian Andean Cordillera. We will first visit Antisana´s 120-thousand-hectare Ecological Reserve and explore its many ecosystems. The lush landscape of this high-altitude Andean reserve is a great spot for Condor sightings. Keep your eyes open while we traverse the pajonal plains! We will also search for large mammals such as the white-tailed deer and the Ecuadorian culpeo zorro. We will then stop at the Mica Lagoon to see a rich assortment of birds. Later on, take advantage of the Hacienda Guaytara Lodge’s (link) high-powered telescope to see speckled bears from a safe distance.

Day 2: Papallacta - Guango - San Isidro
After breakfast, we will resume our search for condors. Then we will descend along the Cinnamon route to the cloud forests of Guango for lunch and a stroll through breath-taking hummingbird gardens. Be sure to photograph sword-billed, tourmaline sunangel, and the collared inca hummingbirds. After lunch, come with us to the Papallacta River and watch torrent ducks, magpies, and tanagers. This riverbank is a haven for orchid enthusiasts.

In the afternoon, we will hike to the Yanayacu Scientific Station (6,600 FASL) and watch for birds along the way. Hear from the station’s resident scientists as they educate us on their research, as well as their conservation efforts.
